Triund is the gateway trek of Dharamshala — a well-marked 9 km climb from McLeod Ganj to a grassy ridge at 2,875 m. The trail passes through oak and rhododendron forest, with the Dhauladhar wall growing larger with every switchback. Camping on the ridge means a sunset and sunrise you'll remember. It's moderate fitness, not technical, but the last 2 km are steep.
Meet guide in McLeod Ganj, start trek by 10 am
5–6 hour ascent with lunch stop at Magic View café
Camp setup on ridge, sunset, dinner around bonfire
Sunrise, breakfast, descent next morning
Carry cash — the Magic View café mid-trail doesn't take UPI reliably. Book forest permit in advance during peak weekends.
